Thousands of Iranian-Americans prepare to demonstrate against Ahmadinejad’s visit to UN

Iranians Protest in the U.S.NCRI, September 13 – In protest to a visit to New York by clerical regime’s president, thousands of Iranian-Americans are preparing for a major demonstration outside the United Nations Headquarters on September 14, 2005.

According to Iranian state-run news agency, IRNA, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad left Tehran for New York on Tuesday to attend the 60th session of the UN General Assembly. Prior to his departure he met Ali Khamenei, supreme leader of the clerical regime.

The media in Iran reported yesterday that Ahmadinejad was removed from the list of speakers at the UN General Assembly and his body guards would not be allowed to get off the plane. In the meantime the visa issued to him restricted his movement to within 25 miles of the UN headquarters in New York.

New Yorkers and Iranian-Americans from nearly 40 states will come together in a peaceful rally at the Dag Hammarskjold UN Plaza on Wednesday organized by the “New York Committee against Ahmadinejad” (NYCA). This will be the culmination of a three-week outreach campaign by the NYCA in light of Ahmadinejad’s past involvement in Iran’s state-sponsored terrorism, including the 1979 take-over of the US Embassy in Tehran.

Ahmadinejad, a former senior commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, was a leader of the student group which took over the Embassy and was directly involved in the 1989 assassination of an Iranian Kurdish leader in Vienna, Austria.

According to an ABC News report the United States has determined that Ahmadinejad is indeed a terrorist.
