Rafsanjani voices worry about the Iranian regime’s gloomy prospects

NCRI – The Chairman of the regime’s Assembly of Experts voiced his anxiety on Monday about the clerical regime’s internal rifts and gloomy prospects, adding, “I am worried about the prospect of those loyal elements to the establishment becoming disheartened.”

Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani’s remarks were published on the state-run ILNA website. Speaking to a number of former regime officials on the occasion of Nowrouz holidays, Rafsanjani said, “I am worried that loyal elements would be disheartened. If we unite, then in light of the circumstances in neighboring countries, we can act as the hub of stability in the region.”

Rafsanjani also pointed to the regime’s crises, citing unity among hostile factions as an imperative for the entire system. “In view of the domestic situation and circumstances abroad, preserving the Islamic Republic is profoundly important. We need to build trust in the country’s political landscape in the new year.”

While warning about the social and political aftershocks cutting subsidies, Rafsanjani also said, “Surgical subsidies are a necessity for our country’s economy but it has to be implemented in a way that would avoid leading to public disenchantment.”
