Iran: Regime bans foreign media from covering rallies

Iran- June 15, 2009NCRI  – The Iranian regime on Tuesday banned the foreign media from covering "unauthorised" rallies, as  the widespread arrest of young protestors and opponents of the regime in Tehran and most other cities has gained new dimensions.

The culture ministry instructed the foreign media to "avoid participation or news coverage of gatherings which do not have the interior ministry permit," in an apparent reference to anti-government demonstration that turned to clashes with State Security Force.

NCRI  – The Iranian regime on Tuesday banned the foreign media from covering "unauthorised" rallies, as  the widespread arrest of young protestors and opponents of the regime in Tehran and most other cities has gained new dimensions.

The culture ministry instructed the foreign media to "avoid participation or news coverage of gatherings which do not have the interior ministry permit," in an apparent reference to anti-government demonstration that turned to clashes with State Security Force.

Mohsen Moghadaszadeh, head of the foreign media office at the ministry, has told the agencies: "Hereby we inform all foreign media representatives to avoid any news coverage which has not been coordinated or authorised by this bureau." "Do not participate in events unless the programme has been announced by this bureau," he added.

Therefore, foreign journalists are barred from reporting on the streets.
Several journalists working for foreign media outlets have complained that the Iranian regime has been blocking them since anti-government broke out and some recordings of clashes between demonstrators and security forces have been seized and foreign journalists who travelled to Iran for last Friday's election have been told to leave as soon as their visas expires.
