Iran: Acting director of Ministry of Education announced that text books will be gender segregated

NCRI – Ali Reza Ahmadi, acting director of Ministry of Education called for segregating primary and secondary school text books.

"Text books should address the future needs of students in their real lives after they leave school. Boys and girls have different mental needs in growing up.

"The text books therefore should be addressing both gender groups at the same time. It is a fact that psychological and mental requirements for boys and girls differ, something that should concern those designing text books," said Ahmadi.

Speaking to state-run news agency IEBNA, Ahmaidi added, "it is not that by adopting such a policy we are being prejudice against female students."

Rejecting the West’s educational pattern as a good example for Iran he said, "We have our own Islamic values and the text books should be prepared in accordance with those principles."

Imposing strict gender segregation in all social activates involving women has been the practice since the early days of the mullahs’ regime. However, going as far as segregating the school children’s text books is a new measure to deepen the gender discrimination.
