CNN: Demonstrations in various world cities against stoning by the Iranian regimeNCRI – In protest to the clerical regime’s plans to implement the inhumane punishment by stoning against a female prisoner, the Iranian Resistance has staged demonstrations to draw the attention of international human rights groups to the case and work to prevent the misogynist regime from implementing its crimes.

In a report about stoning in Iran, the American news channel CNN said on Saturday that Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, a mother of two, may have been spared temporarily from being stoned but there are no guaranteed. Currently, according to state-run media in Iran, Ashtiani’s case is under review.

CNN pointed to an international outcry about Ashtiani’s case and the practice of stoning in general by the regime, reporting on various demonstrations around the world, including in London, Sweden, and Denmark, where hundreds came to the streets in protest.

CNN talked live to one of its reporters on the scene across from the Iranian regime’s embassy in London, where demonstrators sought to draw international attention to the case in order exert more pressure on the Iranian regime. Although the regime has announced that it will review the case once again, demonstrators believe that it is very important for the pressure to continue.

In an interview with CNN, Hossein Abedini of the opposition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), said, “We have been informed by [Ashtiani’s] lawyer that the regime has not confirmed that the stoning has been suspended. The regime has only so far released an extremely vague statement. Her lawyer says that her execution and probably her stoning is imminent and can take place at any moment.”

CNN added, “There is a lot of concern that despite the fact that the case is being reviewed again, they will possibly execute her and are only wasting time at the moment. These activists want to continue to pressure the regime to prevent that outcome.”

The CNN reporter emphasized that, “These demonstrations were not only about stoning but also expressing solidarity with the uprising of students last year and also in 1999. We see a lot of purple umbrellas in a show of solidarity here. The aim is to keep up the pressure on the regime. We have to see how the regime ultimately reacts to these pressures.”
