Iranian female political prisoner sentenced to 3 years

womenNCRI – A female political prisoner has been sentenced to 3 years in prison, according to reports obtained by the Human Rights and Democracy Activists in Iran.

Ms. Zahra Safai also spent some time in prison as a political prisoner in the 1980s. She was sentenced by a regime judge identified as Salavati.

Ms. Safai, 45, is a single mother, taking care of two young children. The Iranian regime’s intelligence ministry interrogators fabricated a case against her 7 years ago, and reactivated the case after years of inaction. She was recently sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment during a show trial.

Ms. Safai’s father was a well-known merchant in Tehran’s Grand Bazaar, who was arrested and executed in the 1980s by the clerical regime.

Her nephew, Hassan Tarlani, a university student, is also imprisoned. He was arrested after intelligence agents raided his family residence on February 21, 2008. Mr. Tarlani has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and exiled to Kerman prison.
