Senior regime officials scramble to find ways to counter further uprisings

NCRI – Senior officials of the Iranian regime have conducted two hastily arranged meetings to assess the Iranian people’s uprising this week, signaling growing fears and anxiety building within the clerical dictatorship over rising popular protests.

According to the state-run Mehr news agency on Tuesday, a committee entitled “Assessing the scope of the 25 Bahman [February 14] riots” has been formed by the regime, and has met twice so far.

According to these reports, the regime’s top security and political officials have taken part in the meetings, which are aimed to discuss the uprising on February 14 and to determine ways to counter future protests.

Some of the most senior figures include: the regime’s Intelligence Minister Heydar Moslehi, Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, Interior Minister Mohammad Mostafa Najjar, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili, and Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Mohammad Ali Jafari.

Also present in the meetings were the Commander of the IRGC in Tehran, Hossein Hamedani, Commander of the State Security Forces (SSF), Esmaeel Ahmadi Moqaddam, General Prosecutor Gholam Hossein Ejei, Tehran Prosecutor Jafari Dolat Abadi, and the head of the state-run TV and radio Ezatollah Zarghami.
