Senior IRGC commander warns of threats to Supreme Leader and his Guards

NCRI – Domestic and foreign enemies are conspiring to undermine the Iranian regime’s Supreme Leader and Revolutionary Guards, a senior IRGC official said this week.

Brigadier General Mohammad Ali Asoudi said: “Spreading rumours about the Revolutionary Guards and defying the Supreme Leader are among the tactics of internal and foreign enemies.

“The sowing of conspiracies targeting the IRGC has begun and we must be constantly on alert for this.”

Asoudi made the remarks during a political gathering of the IRGC in Semnan Province on Wednesday, the Fars news agency reported.

He said the Revolutionary Guards had gained experience tackling dissent during the massive uprisings of 2009 and in its conflict with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

The IRGC is the Supreme Leader’s ‘ideological army’ and exists solely to keep him in power. Many high-ranking officials and ministers are former commanders of the force.
