In a telephone contact with AGI, Abu Kadhem said, "Practically, there are four detention centers in the city of Basra and two in Al-Amara that are run by the Iranian Intelligence." On the nature of the work these centers conduct, he said, "The officials in charge of these centers interrogate those people who are arrested by the Major Crimes Directorate or the Police Intelligence in Basra, or kidnapped by the militia." Abu-Kadhem refrained from specifying the locations of these prisons, but added that it is sufficient to say that these prisons are guarded by the Iraqi Police and inspected by leaders of Islamic movements in Basra.
