Saudi Arabia forming coalition against Iranian regime

NCRI – Saudi Arabia is rallying countries across the Middle East and Asia to join an informal alliance against the Iranian regime, Wall Street Journal has reported.

Saudi officials have approached Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia and Central Asian states to lend diplomatic support—and potentially military assistance in some cases, the paper said.

U.S. officials working with Saudi Arabia acknowledged in recent days Riyadh’s frustration with Washington’s policies. “They are not happy with us, and are really nervous about Iran,” said an American official.

“Riyadh has been skeptical of the Obama administration’s efforts to engage Iran diplomatically, among other disagreements,” WSJ said.

It also pointed to Saudi Arabia’s relations with other Muslim nations, saying, “Saudi officials said their campaign was broad. “There are many elements of this initiative,” said a Saudi official. “All the major Muslim states are willing to commit to this issue if need be and asked by Saudi leadership.”

The WSJ report added, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said in a statement, “Malaysia fully backs all sovereign decisions taken by Saudi Arabia and GCC states to safeguard the stability and security of the region in these trying times.”
