NCRI – After being removed as chairman of the mullahs’ Assembly of Experts, Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has said that he may also be removed as the head of the regime’s Expediency Council, al-Arabiya TV reported on Tuesday.
The report added, “The Assembly of Experts has turned into an arena for eulogizing Khamenei, diverted from its main role of supervising his actions.”
“Rafsanjani supporters say he is now facing the consequences of his own decision [in 1989] to compel the Assembly of Experts to vote for Khamenei [as the mullahs’ Supreme Leader],” it said.
Al-Arabiya also highlighted attacks against Rafsanjani by rival factions to remove him from positions of power. It broadcasted a tape which shows plainclothes agents pestering and insulting Rafsanjani’s daughter in public.
