In an interview with al-Sharqiya TV this weekend, Dr. Allawi said, “There were a variety of issues which led to the decision to participate and effectively work in the new government.”
The first issue was the destruction and catastrophes the Iraqis have faced in recent times, which the new government needs to deal with, he said.
“The new government must be formed on a clear and fair basis so that we can do what we have to for the Iraqi people.”
Dr. Allawi added, “The fact that the Iranian regime has extensive influence and power in Iraqi affairs strengthened the decision to participate in the new government to restrict that influence and the Iranian regime’s control over Iraqi affairs. This was also due to a less US role in helping the Iraqi people and the dissolution of institutions in Iraq.”
Dr. Allawi added, “We accept wholeheartedly the Iraqi people’s demands and hope that our participation will reduce their pains and suffering. Our decision to participate and retreat from our right to take the premiership was based on respect for the Iraqi people.”
