Iraqi Officers Involved in Arms Smuggling from Iran

According to a report by Al-Sumeria Television August 9, Adnan al-Assadi, deputy Minister of Interior in Maliki’s administration, confessed to arms smuggling from Iran to Iraq, which takes place through Maysan Province. “This is not about a sack or two but tons of rockets, mortar shells and RPGs that are carried over to Iraq through the border.

He also mentioned that three army officers who were involved in weapons smuggling were working in the Counter-Terrorism and Border Patrol sections of the Ministry of Justice.

 

Whereas Al-Maliki’s administration and Iraqi diplomacy have taken very passive position vis-à-vis Iran’s shelling of Iraqi soil and against Iran’s support of armed groups inside Iraq, Deputy Minister confesses to arms smuggling from Iran by Iraqi officers,  Al-Sumeria TV added.
