According to the state-run Fars news agency, when asked how the Iranian regime would respond if an “Iranian national” is accused of being involved in the case, Ramin Mehmanparast said, “We hope that, with alertness and aptitude, Lebanese officials do not allow any plots to be hatched in this regard.”
He was also asked about Egyptian measures against the regime’s attempts to send its agents and suspicious shipments under the cover of Red Crescent missions, to which he responded, “Unfortunately, some parliament members and people that were accompanying the aid mission to Gaza were not allowed to travel with the group after the Egyptian government refused them visas.”
He complained, “Our country and people, as well as all Islamic nations, have greater expectations of Egypt.”
The mullahs’ foreign ministry spokesman also dodges questions about reports regarding the arrest and torture of Shahram Amiri, a nuclear scientist, by the regime. Adopting a sardonic tone, he said, “Do you miss this guy? Stop paying attention to rumors, the source of which is America.”
The New York Times quoted a website on Tuesday as saying that Amiri has been imprisoned and tortured since his return to Iran in July.
