U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, a potential 2016 presidential candidate said on Sunday he sees the Iranian regime a threat greater than the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
“They’re an evil regime,” Graham said. “A cold-blooded regime.”
He criticized the Obama administration that is currently participating in discussions with the Iranian regime to limit Tehran’s nuclear program.
“No deal is better than a bad deal,” Graham said.
Iran has “destabilized the region,” he added, pointing to the ongoing civil war in Syria.
Graham said: “Assad is the puppet of Iran.”
Speaking on NBC’s Meet the Press program on Sunday he said giving Iran any leeway by lifting sanctions will only encourage the regime to further destruction in the region, he added.
“If they get more money from sanction relief, what would they do with it?” Graham asked. “Advance their religious goals.”
“I fear them more than I fear [ISIS],” he added.
