Iran: Funeral for IRGC officer killed in Syria

NCRI – The funeral of a member of the Iranian regime’s Revolutionary Guard Corps who was killed in Syria has been held in northern Iranian city of Roodsar.

The city’s political deputy commander Mohammad Mohammadi said the mayor and local clerics attended the service on Saturday May 4 for Amir-Reza Alizadeh, who was killed in a bomb blast outside the Iranian regime’s embassy in the Syrian capital of Damascus.

It is not the first time the regime has buried members of IRGC who have been killed in Syria – with scant details usually given about where or how they were killed.

On April 5, al-Arabiya TV published an interview with an IRGC officer being held captive by rebel Free Syrian Army forces.

The officer said he had been in Syria to train snipers for President Bashar al-Assad’s troops based in the western province of Idlib.

On March 29, a spokesman for the Syrian opposition said that a number of commanders of the IRGC were wounded when the Free Syrian Army shot at their plane as it was landing in Damascus International Airport on March 28.
