Gen. Rahim Safavi said that in the spring of 2001, during a four-hour-long missile barrage, the IRGC fired more than 1,000 long and medium range missiles and artillery shells against the bases of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) on the Iraqi side of the border.
The state-run Fars news agency, affiliated with the IRGC, quoted Rahim Safavi on Thursday as saying: "The IRGC carried out an operation from 4:00 to 8:00 am, firing more than 1,000 long and medium range missiles and artillery shells against all of the PMOI’s bases, including Camp Ashraf and the camp in the Iraqi town of al-Emarra, which destroyed the bases and inflicted heavy casualties.
The attack took place on April 18, 2001.
