Iran Accelerates Sending Weapons and Militias to Syria

NCRI – Using its commercial aircrafts, Iran has accelerated sending Iraqi and Afghan Shiite militias as well as weapons to Syria, to help Assad regime and its allies intensify their attacks on eastern Aleppo.

Controlled by the rebels, the besieged areas in Eastern Aleppo are under fierce attacks by Syrian government forces, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and Shiite militias linked to Tehran.

While Iran is continuing its financial and military support of the Assad’s regime, the US Congress has extended Iran Sanctions Act for another ten years.

Also the UN Third Committee has issued a resolution, condemning Tehran’s bloody intervention in the Syrian war.

According to ‘War Reports’ website as well as the ‘Syria & Iraq War Reports’ webpage, both run by some Iranian activists opposed to Iran’s intervention in Iraq and Syria, Iran has recently sent thousands of militias linked to the Iraqi Shiite group ‘al-Hashd al-Shaabi’ from Abadan airport to Syria. According to this report, the Iraqi militias who play a major role in Aleppo’s deadly siege, are often taken to Damascus by Iran’s Mahan Air flights, to be further transferred to different conflict areas in Syria.

Mahan Air has been in the US Treasury’s sanctions list from 2011 for its ‘transferring of arms, forces and military equipment to the Revolutionary Guard’s Quds Force in Syria’, but has continued its regular flights ever since.

Most US Congress Members believe that Iran’s continued military intervention in Syria is a clear violation of the nuclear deal by Tehran, asking for more sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
