Iran: A top IRGC commander admits to arming ‘freedom armies’ in the region

Brig. Gen. Hossein Hamedani a top IRGC commanderNCRI – Brig. Gen. Hossein Hamedani, deputy commander of the paramilitary Bassij Forces said on Sunday that Iran is arming "freedom armies," according to Sepah News, the official Farsi language website of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

"Today, not only our armed forces are self sufficient but the freedom armies of the region get part of their weaponry from us," said Hamedani.

Like those of the Revolutionary Guards, commanders of the militia are appointed by the mullahs' Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

"During the eight-year Iran-Iraq war the world armies witnessed that we were very strong," added Hamedani.

He said that sanctions first began when we "seized the nest of spices, but Imam [Khomeini] called them gifts from heavens," a direct reference to 1979 seizer of American embassy in Tehran.
"Our armed forces are self sufficient and with the help of our chemical engineers and increasing our capabilities in missile production as well as other weaponry we will have no problem combating our enemies," Hamedani said.

IRGC and its extra-territorial arm, the Qods Force, are involved in supplying, financing and training most of terrorist organizations in the Middle East and especially in the neighboring Iraq.
