Former member of Syrian military: Weapons and personnel from Iran and Hezbollah participate in suppressing Syrian uprising

In Syria, demonstrations for overthrowing the government of Bashar Assad continue at nights. These demonstrations are held while Syrian regime’s suppressive forces are engaged in widespread arrests in the cities of Homs, Dar’a and Damascus as well as the towns of Edleb Province.

Walid al-Ghashami, a member of military who recently deserted Assad regime’s army told the al-Sharq al-Awsat daily that the Iranian regime sends Arms for Assad’s government.

He said: New weapons arrived for us that were made in Iran and the writings on them were in Persian; weapons that I saw during the uprising I had never seen or used before in Syria, most prominently a snipers’ weapon that kills with a single shot. Electric batons were also imported from Iran.

This deserted member of the military added: I saw with my own eyes Hezbollah soldiers in bases of Damascus and we gave them our military uniforms. Their uniforms had Hezbollah’s insignia and they could be recognized by their obvious accents, also by their beards, because wearing beard is not permitted in the Syrian military.

Meanwhile, the clerical regime’s media in Iran admitted to the linkage between the Iranian freedom loving uprising and the Syrian uprising.

State-run Javan Online wrote: The movements after the 2009 elections in Iran and the recent protests in Syria have the same origin; In Iran they chanted “No to Ghaza, no to Lebanon” and in Syria they chant “No to Iran, no to Hezbollah.”

Al-Ghashami emphasized that Bashar Assad is well aware of all that’s happening in Syria including direct targeting and firing at the demonstrators. The Republican Guard does not have the permission to make any move without written signature of Assad.
