In an interview with the Kuwaiti daily al-Rai, Dr. Allawi said, “I have objections to the Iranian regime’s policies in Iraq which support certain political movements against others and encourage sectarianism.” He called on the Iranian regime to see Iraq as an independent and sovereign state instead of a sphere of political influence or its own back yard.
He added, “Al-Iraqiya won the elections and anyone who disregards this is in effect ignoring the Iraqi people’s will and does not want Iraq to enjoy stability as an outcome of democracy.”
According to al-Sharqiya TV, Allawi also said in another interview that the office of the prime minister should be held exclusively by the al-Iraqiya list. If the list’s election rights are violated, he said, then it will not remain committed to the political process and will undoubtedly abandon it.
