Designation of regime officials sign of solidarity with Iranian people: US

NCRI – The US designation two Iranian regime officials for human rights abuses highlights Washington’s commitment to support the Iranian people in their pursuit of universal rights, State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told reporters on Wednesday.

This week, the Department of State and Treasury announced the designation of two Iranian regime officials for serious human rights abuses in Iran.

“These designations underscore our enduring commitment to support Iranians seeking to exercise their universal rights and express our solidarity with victims of torture, persecution, and arbitrary detention,” Crowley said.

“Iranians will recognize these individuals as two of the most egregious perpetrators of human rights abuses.”

The designated mullahs’ officials are Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi, the regime’s prosecutor general in Tehran, and Mohammed Reza Naqdi, the commander of the paramilitary Bassij Force.

Crowley added that the Bassij “are forces that most recently on Sunday [moved] to suppress protests across Iran. The most recent demonstrations are only the latest in a string of actions under [Naqdi’s] command, taken to suppress dissent, and in many cases, violently.”

The two are now subject to asset freezes and a visa ban, according to the State Department.
