NCRI – Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird rejected the idea of co-operation with Iranian regime against the terrorist group, ISIS in Iraq.
“John Baird told a parliamentary committee Tuesday that Canada vehemently rejects any suggestion of working with Iran,” Ottawa Citizen reported on September 9.
“Iran is the biggest state sponsor of terrorism in the world,” Baird said. “Just because it’s not their brand of terrorism doesn’t (absolve) them. They have had a very destabilizing influence in just about every single country in that region.”
Former US Ambassador to Iraq, Ryan Crocker also dismissed the ideathat America should work with the Iranian regime, which is also fighting in Iraq.
Crocker told CNN on Thursday that while American airstrikes and Iranian militiamen were both behind the recent liberation of the Iraqi city of Amerli, but he emphasized that “The worst thing we could do right now as they still struggle through this is to look as though we are supporting Iran and Iran’s surrogates inside Iraq,” Crocker said. “That will send the Sunnis completely in the wrong direction.”
The Conservative government in Canada has been among the world’s most vocal critics of the Iranian regime. It severed all diplomatic ties between Canada and the clerical regime in September 2012, and has consistently called it out for its nuclear program, as well as its poor human rights record and support for terrorist groups.
Prior to this, former secretary of states,Henry Kissinger in an interview with NPR denounced the idea of cooperation with the Iranian regime in Iraq.
He warned: “I consider Iran a bigger problem than ISIS. ISIS is a group of adventurers with a very aggressive ideology. But they have to conquer more and more territory before they can became a strategic, permanent reality. I think a conflict with ISIS — important as it is — is more manageable than a confrontation with Iran”
Mrs Maryam Rajavi, the president elect of the Iranian resistance, speaking at an international conference in Paris, on September 1, noted that the growth and expansion of extremist terrorist groups, before all else, is the by-product of Iranian regime’s dominion over Iraq and suppression by Maliki. Thus, confronting ISIS without evicting the regime of Velayat-e faqih and its terrorist groupings from Iraq is fruitless.
