Austrian arms sent to Iran – Austrian MP

Peter PilzNCRI – Austria’s top anti-terrorism police official facilitated arms exports to Iran and betrayed Iranian asylum-seekers to the clerical regime’s Vienna embassy, German news agency DPA reported citing an opposition MP charging Wednesday.

Head of the Austria’s Federal Anti-Terrorism Office for Protection of the Constitution (BVT), Gert-Rene Polli, was “a security risk”, charged Greens MP Peter Pilz, who specializes in security and defense. He demanded Polli’s removal from office.

Pilz charged at a press conference that Polli had played a key role in the sale of 800 Austrian Steyr-Mannlicher rifles to Iran.

“But there was fear the rifles could instead have fallen into the hands of Iraqi terrorists,” said Pilz.

In May 2005 and again in January 2006, Polli travelled to Tehran and met with representatives of the Intelligence Ministry, which “according to court verdicts is the center for Iranian state terrorism”, said Pilz.

Immediately after his second journey, the BVT chief had asked the head of the Austrian Federal Asylum Office to hand over information on all Iranian asylum-seekers in the period from August 2005 to February 2006.

The suspicion exists that the data on the asylum-seekers went to the Iranian embassy, said Pilz.
