Al-Iraqiya: silence about Iranian regime’s meddling encourages it to invade Iraq

NCRI – The al-Iraqiya list, led by former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, has said that political inaction with respect to the Iranian regime has encouraged it to march into Iraqi territory.

A senior official of the political block, Zafer al-Ani, criticized a lack of response to the threats posed to Iraqi sovereignty and security by the Iranian regime.

He said “leaked information indicates that there is a political deal between the governments of Iran and Iraq.”
“Is ignoring the Iranian regime’s aggression the result of cutting a deal with it, as was the case with respect to Camp Ashraf,” al-Ani asked.

In an interview with Baghdad daily this week, he said the Iranian regime disrespects the Iraqi flag, disconnects the flow of Alvand River, backs death squads, invades Iraqi territory, and cuts the electricity of Basra hospitals. As this goes on, he said, the Iraqi government continues to cajole Tehran.

He criticized Iraqi President’s recent visit to Tehran for a conference on terrorism, and some trade deals, the latest of which was signed when a delegation of 120 Qods Force commanders came to Iraq accompanied by the Iranian regime’s Vice President.

He said the silence exercised by some Iraqi officials with respect to such meddling is indicative of the fact that they are still tied to the Iranian regime just like they were before 2003 when they were in exile in Iran.
