“Taking part in assassination of a member of opposition, Rajavi”

Frankfurt – August 30 – The Iranian opposition, National Council of Resistance of Iran (Mojahedin-e Khalq) made serious allegations against the Iranian ambassador in Berlin, Mohammad Mehdi Akhoondzadeh Basti. He has been representing his country in the German capital since the beginning of 2006 following widespread changes in Iranian embassies in nearly 40 countries after Ahmadinejad became the president.
It is believed that he was involved in the political assassination of Kazem Rajavi, a member of the opposition.
Kazem Rajavi was assassinated on April 24, 1990 in Coppet district in Geneva suburbs [Switzerland]. The exiled opposition says that according to investigations by Swiss agencies and intelligence of the prosecutor’s office, Akhoondzadeh Basti who was identified by his diplomatic passport number, hotel registration and air travel ticket, had visited Switzerland twice in the past, once in 1989 and again between April 17 and 24 in 1990, the same day that Kazem Rajavi was assassinated. [According to the Iranian opposition] On the basis of information verified by various agencies, any misidentification due to similarity in names is completely ruled out.
In a press briefing in Berlin on Thursday, the Iranian exiles claimed that front companies in Hamburg and Frankfurt provide a network of spies and intelligence agents for the Iranian secret service, the Intelligence Ministry. This is part of a new strategy in Europe.
