NCRI – Police chief of ‘Greater Tehran Venues’, announced on Saturday, November 12: “In the first seven months of this year, 713,546 satellite dish, 923,299 LNB and 10,766 satellite receivers were seized.
Alireza Lotfi whose remarks were broadcast by state-run ISNA news agency also announced that 193 people who were installing satellites were arrested. He threatened: “Police is trying to focus on installers and bands in connection with this issue.”
Also, the Iranian regime prosecutor in Tehran, Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi said: “Some officials present statistics such as 60 percent of people are using satellites in order to negate the actions of police and prosecution in dealing with and collecting satellite equipment.”
“The officials must not ‘obstruct the work’ of police in the fight against collecting satellites,” he said.
Iranian regime’s Majlis Research Center in a report admitted the failure of such measures and said: “The law that prohibits the use of satellites has lost its efficiency and the efforts to pass a new law have failed due to the lack of a unified policy.”
Earlier this year a deputy commander of the Iranian regime’s Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC) expressed its fear of satellite TV channels and warned members of Basij para-military forces that the “enemy” is trying to affect the public opinion by “creating a negative wave.”
He stated: “the most of damage to the regime during the 2009 uprising in Iran was caused by internet and opposition satellite networks.”
