Renowned Iranian actor Ezzatollah Entezami resigns from House of Artists

NCRI – Famous Iranian actor Ezzatollah Entezami has resigned from The House of Artists (Khane ye Honarmandan) in protest at the expulsion of his colleagues from the body’s council.

Mr Entezami, 89, has been one of the leading figures in Iranian theater and cinema for the past 60 years.

He has been deputy chair of The House of Artists’ leadership council since it was founded in the 1990s.

But he has now quit after the regime – which has banned independent trade unions – replaced the council with its own selected members.

Mr Entezami wrote in a letter: “With the problems we have before us I can not continue my work sincerely. The current circumstances have caused me much fatigue in my ageing body these past years, so I am announcing my resignation from the House of Theatre and The House of Artists of Iran.”
