Iranian regime arrests individual for faking ministers’ Facebook pages

NCRI – The Iranian regime’s judiciary has arrested an individual accused of opening fake Facebook accounts in the names of some cabinet ministers, judiciary spokesman Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ejeie said on Monday.

In recent weeks reports suggested some ministers were active on Facebook, but the ministers denied they have any social media accounts, Mohseni-Ejeie said, according to a report by state-run Mehr news agency.

The spokesman said that an investigation was launched and a man was arrested for having opened “these fake accounts, and he is now in prison.”

“The members of the cabinet said that they do not need Facebook pages,” he added.

The identity of the person arrested was not immediately known nor the spokesman did not explain how that person had managed to open the accounts as access to social media websites including Facebook is blocked in Iran.

However judiciary spokesman said for now one person is arrested but more people may be involved in this file.
