Iranian traffic police pulled over a car and attempted to arrest several youths on but retreated when the young men refused to be apprehended for bogus offences on December 31.
Meanwhile, state security forces tried to arrest several women in the Goldis shopping center in Tehran’s Aryashahr District on charges of ‘improper veiling’, but were forced to back down after other women nearby began protesting.
Security forces in Tehran’s busy Pars District arrested a member of the public but released him after onlookers attacked and disarmed the forces.
One onlooker said that on holidays, security and patrol forces step up assaults and bogus arrests on youths throughout the city.
