Iran’s Internet speed among slowest in world

NCRI – Iran’s Internet speeds are among the slowest in the world – ranking only 170 out of 186 countries, the latest study has found.

Data has revealed that in November this year, download speeds averaged 2.43 Mbps and was also slower than a year ago, according to research by the Seattle-based Ookla Group.

Their study found Saudi Arabia had the highest Internet speeds in the region, followed by Armenia, Turkey and Qatar. are next in internet download speed.

Hopes had risen that the election of President Hassan Rouhani would mean faster Internet speeds across Iran – but the bandwidth and speeds have remained low as part of the regime’s efforts to impose censorship and security controls over net users.

Despite high number of internet users in Iran, the price of the Internet in the regime is also seven times higher than average price in the world, studies have shown.
