Iran: Population exceeds 77 million

Iran’s population has increased to 77.4 million (77,366,980) as of 4 April 2014, according to the latest official statistics published.

The Statistical Center of Iran on 22 February 2013 had declared the population of the country was 77.2 million (77,176,930). Therefore in period of 13 month 190,050 persons have been added to the population of the country.

The population of Iran country has more than doubled since 1976, when it was 33.7 million people.

Rate of population growth in the 1980’s has been over 2 percent but in recent years has been dropped to 1.29 percent.

The head of Iran’s Civil Registry warned in March that the country’s population growth rate will reach zero in 30 years when the country will begin facing a decline in population.

In recent years, the Iranian regime’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has announced that the population control policies were a mistake and the country should in fact try to implement policies to encourage population growth to reach at least the population of 150 millions.
