NCRI – One day after Ishaq Jahangiri, the first vice president of the Iranian regime, said most victims of the recent earthquake belong to the Mehr residence, the head of the regime’s engineering system organization announced that the organization had “no oversight” over the construction of the Mehr housing project.
According to the state-run Fars news agency affiliated to IRGC, the head of the organization, Hassan Gurbankhani, said: “The engineering system organization had no supervision over the construction of the Mehr housing units, and no monitoring engineer has been introduced by the organization for the housing units.”
In this regard, Saber Pirbornash, Director of Public Relations of Tehran’s Engineering System Organization, told the state-run “Iran” newspaper: “The custodians of the Mehr housing project announced that they would not need to be supervised by the engineering organization in order to reduce costs and increase construction speed, while construction of all urban buildings should be done through the municipality and the engineering system organization.”
The state-run “Iran” newspaper quoted Mohammad Reza Habibi, member of the board of directors of the engineering system of Kermanshah, as saying that in Mehr housing project “the cost of construction from was reduced from 600,000 Toman per meter to 300,000 Toman per meter, which surely lead to a decline in the quality and use of materials with lower standards in Mehr housing across the country.”
Strong earthquake of 7.3 on the Richter scale on Sunday, November 12, shook western provinces of Iran that has killed more than 500 people and injured thousands at the time this news was released.
“The scenes I saw here are like the pictures we had seen before in Aleppo and Idlib (Syria)… all the outer walls of the Mehr Housing Complex have collapsed in the city’s Fouladi (Steel) neighbourhood…,” said an eyewitness in Sarpol Zahab. “The management of relief operations is very weak… while all of these buildings can completely collapse with aftershocks…,” state-owned media reported.
The Mehr housing project, which is one of the largest housing projects in Iran over the past few decades, has been initiated and implemented by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s government, but has received many criticism from the beginning, to the point where Rouhani’s government officials have repeatedly criticized the project.
