NCRI – To prepare for even more censorship and control over the internet, an Iranian regime’s Mullah has said that “setting up an independent internet which can be controlled by the government is a religious duty.”

According to Mehr news agency on October 21, Mullah Jafar Sobhani, pointed to the internet as a means used by the ‘enemies’ for ‘decaying’ the Iranian regime from inside and warned over it.

“Today, the youth can easily see the advertisements of Christianity, Wahhabism, blasphemy, etc. on the internet”, said Sobhani, while expressing his fear over the youth turning to the internet.

He added: “if I show you the images on the internet, all of you will be shocked. All of these are available for the youth in Qom, let alone Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz and Mashhad. Every moment, they are subject to these issues and our thoughts and beliefs are being bombarded.”

The regime’s Mullah added: “the enemy could not decay the Iranian regime through military, and now they’re trying to do it culturally and the internet is one of their means in doing so.”

Mullah Jafar Sobhani stressed that “we should eliminate our independence to the internet by setting up a similar network which can be controlled by the government.”

Regime’s Mullahs and the military have repeatedly warned over the threats of the internet, asking for an independent internet to be set up.
Earlier, Naser Makarem Shirazi, another one of the regime’s Mullahs, had called the internet the‘muddy, unsanitary water’ which needs to be ‘purified’.

The opposition of regime’s Mullahs and officials to the Iranian users’ free access to high speed internet and their insistence on applying restrictions on it are raised at a time when Iran is ranked among the worst countries in the world regarding the internet freedom.
