Iran: Dozens of homes buried as sandstorms sweep south-eastern

NCRI – More than 30 villages have been buried in severe sandstorms and 100kph that swept across Iran’s Sistan and Balouchestan province, the state-run Mehr news agency has reported.

Hirmand governor Soltan-Ali Dehmordeh said that 35 villages around the city had also been cut off by sand drifts and 30 homes had been buried.

The governor of Zahak also said that 57 nearby villages were surrounded by sand.

Sandstorm and wind dust have long been a problem in the province of Sistan and Balouchestan. But government officials have so far not taken any preventive measures in to save homes and lives of people against natural disaster.

Last month, severe flooding and torrential rain hit five provinces across Iran, including Sistan and Balouchestan.

A ten-year-old girl, a five-year-old boy and a man aged 45 were among those who died in Kerman province, while three more people lost their lives when their car crashed from a bridge into a river in Sistan-Baluchestan province.
