NCRI – The state newspaper Etemad has written on Thursday 10 November that “the number of disabled and needy people in the country is estimated to be around 6 million, of whom an active and legal support seems inevitable.”

The state newspaper continues: “Vahab Shafiei is one of the disabled people residing in Tehran. Pointing to the $13 monthly pension supposed to be paid to the disabled, Shafiei states that this amount will by no means meet the needs of the people with disabilities and as a matter of fact it is so small that it can’t even be regarded as a pain reliever for the vulnerable population. Add to that the fact that this limited pension does not include all the disabled people and only some of the applicants succeed to receive it after lots of follow-ups and being put on a waiting list.”

The newspaper then quotes a regime’s expert on social harms in Tehran province as saying “the so-called Six Million People Plan aimed at supporting the poor with no income which also includes the people with disabilities has been discussed in the Parliament since last year but … so long as the amount of monthly pension for the people covered by the plan is estimated to be $15 for one, $17 for two, $20 for three, and $23 for four people, we cannot be hopeful that the financial needs of the vulnerable population would be resolved or that they would be provided with their basic requirements.”
