Iran: 12 women and children killed as bus on barge fell into dam reservoir

NCRI – Twelve Iranian women and children lost their lives after a minibus being transferred on a barge plunges into the reservoir of a dam in the southwestern Iranian province of Khuzestan.

The minibus was being transported by a barge across the reservoir of Karoun 3 Dam when it slipped off the vessel and fell into the water on Wednesday, a local official told state-run news agency IRNA on Thursday.

The minibus was carrying 16 people. The official said most of the 12 victims were women and children.

A news website in the province reported that since there are no bridges in the area more than 12,000 of the residents in villages in the area are surrounded with water since a decade ago that the reservoir had started to fill and the old bridge immersed in the water.

The people living in 15 villages have been forced to use barges to travel.

Three of the victims died because not getting to hospital on time. The nearest hospital is in 100 kilometer from the area.

The local website said it has been a while that the Iranian regime’s official at the Ministry of Power had promised the people in the area to build bridge but no action had been taken.

The Iranian regime has arrested the minibus driver and the driver of the barge.
