Faulty imported Chinese syringes pose serious health risk in Iran

NCRI – Tens of millions of Chinese non-standard syringes that pose a serious risk to public health have been imported by Iran.

National Standards Organization official Fereidoun Bolghari said the syringes were tested and found to be faulty after a flood of complaints from medical patients.

He told the state-run ISNA news agency: “After receiving complaints from people, the National Standard Organization bought and tested thousands of Chinese syringes and has confirmed they were non-standard.

“Some of these syringes even failed to pass to microbial tests.”

Hossein Keivan, Director General of the Department of Health’s medical equipment unit, said the ministry was now unable to collect the tens of millions syringes from the market.

Statistics show that over the past three months from early May to late July 2013, more than seven million dollars worth of syringes were imported. More than 1000 tons of Chinese syringes were also imported last year, with China currently supplying 80 per cent of Iran’s syringes.

The regime saves millions of dollars by importing low-cost and potentially dangerous sanitary equipment despite the fact that medicine and medical supplies are exempt from international sanctions.
