US Rep. Ros-Lehtinen: IAEA should impose “significant penalties” on mullahs

NCRI – The Chairman of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee has urged the UN nuclear watchdog to impose penalties on the Iranian regime.

According to the committee’s official website, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) urged the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to impose “significant penalties” on the Iranian regime for its continued refusal to permit the IAEA to inspect its nuclear facilities.

“The IAEA should also call on the UN Security Council to take further action against the Iranian regime,” Ms. Ros-Lehtinen said in her statement.

Separately, Rep Ros-Lehtinen met on Wednesday with Prime Minister of Australia Julia Gillard after the Prime Minister gave an address to a joint session of Congress.

In a statement, she said, “I expressed to Prime Minister Gillard my particular gratitude for Australia’s strong stance on Iran. Australia showed strong leadership in confronting the Iranian nuclear threat by expanding and strengthening its sanctions on the Iranian regime even before the European Union and the UN acted in a similar fashion.”
