US plays down IRAN-IAEA deal

The United States has played down an agreement between Iran and the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog aimed at resolving the standoff over Tehran’s nuclear ambitions, Deutsche Welle reported.

US State Department spokesman Tom Casey said that Iran had a questionable track record in meeting its commitments.

Earlier, the International Atomic Energy Agency said that Iran had invited it to send inspectors to the country to develop an action plan for resolving issues over its nuclear programme.

Washington is hoping to get the United Nations Security Council to pass a third resolution that would tighten sanctions on Iran for refusing to suspend its uranium enrichment activities.
