US accuses Taiwan company of violating Iran sanctions

taiwan-shipThe US government has accused a company in Taiwan of violating Iran sanctions by loading a cargo from a blacklisted tanker ship.

In a letter to the chairman Taiwan’s Today Makes Tomorrow (TMT), the US Treasury said a company’s tanker has violated Iranian Transactions and Sanctions Regulations during a ship-to-ship transfer in September 2013.

The very large ore oiler (VLOO) is believed to have received nearly 2.09 million barrels of “condensate crude oil” from National Iranian Tanker Co tanker, according to a copy of the letter submitted to the US Bankruptcy Court in Houston, Texas.

The agency can impose civil penalties of $250,000 at a minimum or twice the amount of the suspect transaction, if that is higher.
