UANI Condemns Royal Dutch Shell for Increasing Its Business in Iran

Shell-RegimeBUSINESS WIRE – Sep 28, 2010 – United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) today condemned Royal Dutch Shell for increasing its business with Iran. Rather than complying with the spirit of U.S. and EU law, Royal Dutch Shell over the summer conducted over a billion dollars’ worth of trade in crude oil.

The U.S. sanctions that President Obama signed into law in July are targeted directly at Iran’s oil industry. The Guardian broke the news of Shell’s business in Tuesday’s newspaper.

In response to the news of Royal Dutch Shell’s actions, UANI President, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace said:
“Royal Dutch Shell’s actions are a slap in the face to those who recognize the dangers posed by a nuclear-armed Iran. The international community has sent a clear message to multinational companies that business in Iran is unacceptable. The U.S. and the EU have enacted sanctions that directly target Iran’s oil industry, in order to pressure Iran to halt the development of a nuclear weapons program. We call on Royal Dutch Shell to follow the responsible example of other international oil companies and to immediately end their business in Iran.”
UANI has targeted Royal Dutch Shell over the past year for its business in Iran and through the Iran Disclosure Project has called on Royal Dutch Shell to adequately disclose to its investors the risks associated with its business in Iran.
