The Iranian regime’s foreign minister Javad Zarif has been involved in duping the west into believing the regime needed nuclear power for domestic power purposes to buy time to build an atom bomb, and to distract talks from human rights issues, says Abolfazl Eslami who long worked in the Iranian regime’s Foreign Ministry and Iranian regime’s embassy in Tokyo until he left Iran in 2010.
Abolfazl Eslami’s remarks were published in a number of Iranian websites.
Mr Eslami wrote: “I was working in Foreign Ministry at the same time as Javad Zarif, in the NPT section related to the nuclear program.
“In Khatami’s time, when Zarif was deputy foreign minister for international affairs, he had meetings with IRGC and Intelligence in the Defence Ministry in Lavizan in which I was also present.
“At these meetings, Khamenei’s office representatives and the IRGC insisted that Westerners could not damage our system by waging a war. They wanted to damage our system from inside by supporting counter-revolutionaries within Iran under the pretext of human rights. Therefore, to maintain our system, the counter-revolutionaries had to be violently suppressed.
“So in order to combat the West’s interference in our affairs, we should increase the range of our missiles and our missile development project and continue developing nuclear program with more involvement of our Quds Forces, to curtail the influence of the West.
“And all our country’s resources should be used – as with the Iran-Iraq war – to achieve this.”
Iranian regime officials including Sadegh Kharazi, Zarif, Hamid Baeedi Nezhad, Mohammad Reza Alborzi, Syrus Naaseri and Mosavian, who now lives in the US, had instructions to make the nuclear program the key issue with the West to distract talks from human rights issues, Mr Eslami said.
Based on this policy, Eslami said, we had a job to do under the management of Mr. Zarif and our job was to prepare arguments for upcoming talks aimed at prolonging bargaining and negotiations.
According to Eslami, the arguments were based on the articles in NPT which relates to the rights of countries to use nuclear technology for electricity and medical use, on the Iranian regime’s support for a nuclear free Middle East, on questioning why Israel has a nuclear weapons.
Mr Eslami added: “This was aimed at prolonging bargaining and negotiations to buy time and ensure talks with the West were inconclusive.
“Regarding human rights, Zarif was sending telexes to embassies insisting that students who had been killed were not students but saboteurs.”
He named former Tehran University student Akbar Mohammadi and Iranian-Canadian freelance photographer Zahra Kazemi as among those who Zarif justified their killings.
