Iran – Nuclear: Top U.S. House Democrat calls for tighter sanction

NCRI – The senior Democratic member on the House Foreign Affairs Committee said Wednesday that new report by the U.N. International Atomic Energy Agency shows the need for U.S. to significantly broaden sanctions on Iranian regime to prevent it from developing a nuclear weapon.

Congressman Eliot Engel released the following statement on the release of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s most recent report regarding the Iranian regime’s illicit nuclear program:

“This IAEA report makes clear that Iran continues to rapidly expand its nuclear weapons program, and underscores the urgency of Congress passing new Iran sanctions legislation into law.”

The IAEA report suggests a growing frustration within the agency with the Iranian regime.

“The agency has not been able to begin substantive work with Iran on resolving the outstanding issues, including those related to possible military dimensions to Iran’s nuclear programme,” the report said.
