Iran-Nuclear: Resolutions adopted by the United Nations should be implemented, Chinese FM says

Agence France Presse – China called on Iran Tuesday to step up its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, as part of efforts to end the stand-off over Tehran’s nuclear programme.

Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing also urged Iran to use the available channels of communication.

"We welcome, support and call on Iran to step up its cooperation with the IAEA," Li told a briefing on the sidelines of the ongoing full session of the National People’s Congress, or parliament.

"We also express our hope that Iran will cherish the channels of dialogue and negotiations with the European Union and Russia."

Li made the remark a day after IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei said his agency was still unable to verify that Iran was not seeking nuclear weapons.

"We believe that resolutions adopted by the United Nations should be implemented," Li said.

"We hope that all international efforts will be conducive to the early resumption of diplomatic negotiations."

"We have always stood for a peaceful resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue through diplomacy. This is in interest of all sides concerned."
