Iran: Daily ‘welcomes’ failure of nuclear talks

Iran’s Kayhan daily which is considered Ali Khamenei’s mouthpiece has said it welcomes the failure of the nuclear negotiations with international community.

Kayhan director Hossein Shariatmadari wrote in an editorial on May 18: “Fortunately, the nuclear talks in Vienna between Iran and six world powers have failed.

“While the Americans and their allies were very pleased with the agreement of November 2013, this time our nuclear negotiators went to Vienna with a document specifying the red lines and the non-negotiable points.”

According to Kayhan, these five red lines not open for negotiation are: 1) The right of Iran to continue its nuclear research, 2) That all sanctions must be lifted immediately, 3 )The level of enrichment of uranium will be determined according to the needs of Iran and not by world powers, 4) The activities of the reactor at Arak heavy water will not be changed, and 5) Nobody has the right to inspect military sites in Iran .

Kayhan added: “When Iranian negotiators presented these red lines in Vienna, Western diplomats were at first shocked, then very angry, so much so that there were verbal altercations between the two sides.
