Arab daily highlights Gulf states’ concern over Iranian regime nuclear ambitions

The Arabs on Iran - The U.A.E. ambassador tells the truthNCRI – The Arab-language daily Asharq al-Awsat published an article by the director of al-Arabiya TV,  supporting comments made by the United Arab Emirates’ ambassador to Washington who had said, “The cost of an attack against the Iranian regime will be less than a nuclear-armed regime.”

Abdolrahman Rashed, the former editor-in-chief of Asharq al-Awsat, wrote in the article, “Two weeks ago, the Iranian regime’s officials announced a decision to inspect ships heading towards Arab countries in the region in response to the UN Security Council resolution which called for the inspection of ships headed to Iranian ports if there are suspicions about the shipments.”

“The Iranian regime does not dare to threaten the many American, European or Russian ships with inspection, and has restricted the threat to Arab countries only. This is despite the fact that the Gulf states have no involvement in the UN Security Council resolution and none of the six states has a seat on the Security Council.”

The article added, “Prior to this, Iranian regime officials had announced that in the event of an attack by the US or Israel, they will target the Gulf states. In such a poisonous atmosphere, it is natural for an Arab politician or diplomat to declare that a nuclear-armed Iran will be counted as a threat for us.”

The former editor-in-chief of Asharq al-Awsat adds, “The unambiguous comments of the UAE ambassador were correct. He said we have concerns over what the Iranian regime is currently doing in the region. Imagine how this regime will behave if it were to possess nuclear weapons.”

Rashed also said, “Imagine a nuclear-armed Iranian regime for a second. This regime will not attack Israel, because the Israelis will bury it under hundreds of atomic weapons (in response). The regime may also not attack the Gulf states, but it will try to impose its hegemony. So, the final word is, why is it wrong for an Arab diplomat to say that an attack against the Iranian regime today will be less costly than living alongside a nuclear-armed Iranian regime tomorrow?”
