Khamenei makes humiliating retreat on previous coronavirus remarks

For the first time since the coronavirus outbreak began, Iranian regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei joined the Coronavirus Task Force committee meeting on May 10 through video conference, hinting that perhaps he is beginning to seriously think about the crisis that has engulfed the country for three months.
Although, similar to regime president Hassan Rouhani, Khamenei tried to portray a dominant image of his regime, but his video appearance in the meeting and his remarks are a retreat from his previously claim that the coronavirus “is not a big problem.” This time he mentioned that it is a serious issue and wished that the “young scientists of the homeland” hopefully could discover the vaccine for this “fraudulent virus.” (In reality, however, the regime’s only effort to discover the vaccine has been a failed series of hacking attempts against scientific institutions and research labs in other countries.)
Khamenei tried to cover up the regime’s criminal policy of sending people back to work during the pandemic and said, “The west has failed to manage the coronavirus crisis. People in these countries were attacking the shops.” He also emphasized that “the defeat of the West must be explained to the public.”

Sanctions Relief Would Only Make Iran’s Coronavirus Outbreak Worse

Sanctions Relief Would Only Make Iran’s Coronavirus Outbreak Worse

By: Alejo Vidal-Quadras

The international community needs to do something to help the Iranian people make it through their country’s coronavirus epidemic. It is increasingly obvious that their own government will do nothing for them. But that fact underscores the potential error of following what is many Western policymakers’ first impulse for how to help, namely advocating sanctions relief or injecting cash into the Iranian economy.

UPDATE: 11:30 AM CEST

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) said:

Rouhani’s sudden dismissal of the Minister of Industry, Mines, and Trade reflects the aggravating factional feuding over the plunder and theft of the Iranian people’s wealth and speaks to the deep crisis gripping the regime amid the Coronavirus pandemic. Plunder and theft, much like suppression and export of terrorism, are endemic to this regime.

Implications of reopening Iran’s religious sites during the coronavirus outbreak

Iranian regime president Hassan Rouhani instructed Health Minister Saeed Namaki to provide guidelines for reopening religious centers and holy shrines.
Rouhani’s argument to reopen businesses: “If the people stay home, they will die from hunger.”
What argument does he have to justify the reopening of religious sites?
Mosques and religious centers have always served as a lucrative source of business and revenue for the mullahs.
Foundations such as Astan-e Quds are the largest source of income for the mullahs and Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
The “Ramadan” and “Moharam” bazaars are important and the mullahs cannot forgo such massive sources of income.
Friday prayers are of political and social importance for the mullahs.
It is mainly through these events that the regime promotes its policies and provides guidelines to its forces.
Khamenei and Rouhani have placed the economic/security interests of their regime above people’s lives.
Khamenei – April 9: Production must resume whatever the price which means he will use the crisis as a tool against the collapse of his regime

Khamenei downplayed the COVID-19 crisis: “In comparison to other issues, this is quite insignificant.”
Khamenei’s main issue is the security of his regime. Reopening mosques plays an important role in this regard.
