Iran: Coronavirus Update, Over 41,000 Deaths, May 12, 2020, 6:00 PM
NUMBER OF VICTIMS (AS OF MAY 12, 2020, 6:00 PM CEST):
The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) announced this afternoon, May 12, 2020, that Coronavirus has taken the lives of more than 41,000 in 317 cities across Iran.
The death toll in various provinces include: 3370 in Qom, 2510 in Mazandaran, 2320 in Khuzestan, 1280 in Golestan, 1140 in Hamedan, 1085 in Lorestan, 660 in Kurdestan, 582 in Markazi (Central), 460 in Kerman. This is in addition to cases registered in other provinces.

7-magnitude quake in Tehran will leave 5 million dead: experts
The state-run Mostaghel daily in Iran published a piece on May 11 titled, “Tehran will one day be destroyed!” warning about the consequences of a massive earthquake hitting the Iranian capital.
“Tehran will one day be destroyed. The title of this piece is not meant to be a catchy line, but in fact mirror the remarks of Professor Bahram Akashe, the most renowned earthquake expert in Iran. Specialists in this field all agree that a 7-magnitude earthquake in Tehran would logically leave behind around five million dead. This evaluation has been conducted considering the fact that Iran, and indeed the capital Tehran, are experiencing a number of low-magnitude earthquakes on a daily basis recently. Any of these lesser powerful quakes can in fact lead to a massive earthquake similar to that of Lisbon.”

Statement by the Italian Federation for Human Rights (FIDU)on the Arrest of Elite Students in Iran
The Italian Federation for Human Rights has issued a statement regarding the arrest of two elite students of the Sharif University in Iran, as well as 18 others, for opposing the Iranian regime. The Italian Federation for Human Rights expressed concern about the threats for the detainees, particularly amid the coronavirus outbreak in Iranian prisons, and called for the intervention of UN human rights bodies to ensure the rights of detainees.

Regime officials admit increase in number of infections in Khuzestan, Tehran, Gilan, Semnan, and Kermanshah
The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI / MEK) announced this afternoon that the Coronavirus fatalities in 316 cities in Iran had exceeded 40,700. The number of victims in Tehran is 6,830, Khorasan Razavi 2,950, Khuzestan 2,260, Alborz 1,615, Golestan 1,261, Hamedan 1,100, Central Province 560, and Ilam 280.

Political Prisoners in Iran; Death Threats, Jail sentences, Economic Pressure
Political prisoners in Iran are currently facing life-threatening dangers, longer prison terms, and increasingly intense economic pressure.
Rezvaneh Ahmad Khan Beigi was sentenced to six years in prison by a Tehran appeals court. The political prisoner was charged with “assembly and collusion against national security” and “propaganda against the state.”
Earlier, Rezvaneh Ahmad Khan Beigi was sentenced by a Tehran court to 4 years and 5 months in prison, a verdict that was upheld in the Court of Appeals. In addition to the previous sentence, the political prisoner received a six-year prison sentence.

SW Iran Prison Organization confirms COVID-19 contagion in prison
The Prisons, Security, and Corrective Measures Organization in a southwestern Iranian province confirmed a COVID-19 contagion in the province’s prisons.
Despite numerous reports from human rights organizations over the infection and death of prisoners across Iran, this is the first time that prison officials and the Islamic Republic’s judiciary have officially confirmed a COVID-19 contagion in prisons.
The confirmation that a number of prisoners in Khuzestan Province were infected with COVID-19 came a day after the families of a number of prisoners gathered outside Sheiban Prison in the oil-rich city of Ahvaz to demand news on the fate of their loved ones.
Iran sacks health officials for exposing regime’s COVID-19 cover-up
The Iranian regime dismissed two health officials for making comments that exposed the regime’s cover-up of the COVID-19 epidemic in Iran.
State-run news agencies said that the regime dismissed the head of the Medical Sciences University in Ardebil, northwestern Iran and the head of the Medical Sciences University in Qom, the epicenter of the country’s COVID-19 epidemic.

WHAT ARE THE IRAN PROTESTS OF 2019?
Tuesday, May 12, 2020, marks the 180th day since the beginning of the nationwide Iran protests.
The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) has identified 755 of the more than 1500 protesters killed by the regime so far.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) has called on the United Nations to urgently send an international fact-finding mission to Iranian prisons to meet with the detainees.
