5.7 magnitude earthquake shakes northwest Iran

Iran, February 24, 2020—A 5.7 magnitude earthquake shook the towns and villages of northwest Iran near the cities of Khoy and Salmas in the country’s West Azerbaijan Province in the morning hours of Sunday, February 24.


The areas of Qatour near the town of Zarabad were the worst hit and locals experienced dozens of aftershocks through the course of Sunday following the initial quake at 9:23 am local time.

Iranian opposition President Maryam Rajavi, head of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), called on fellow compatriots to rush to the support of those in need, knowing that Iranian regime officials and authorities will not provide any aid.

Today, ILNA news agency quoted Ahmad Amir-Abadi Farhani, parliament deputy from Qom and a member of the parliament’s leadership, as saying that in the past two weeks, 50 people in Qom had died because of COVID-19.

The situation is very bad. No masks found. People are commuting without masks. Many patients are quarantined each day. We have very few assets. No sanitizing measures anywhere. Markets are still open.

Mahan Air, owned by the terrorist-designated Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), not only continued its flights to China, but also engaged in the transportation of Chinese passengers.

WHAT ARE THE IRAN PROTESTS OF 2019?

Monday, February 24, 2020, marks the 102nd day since the beginning of the nationwide Iran protests.

The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) has identified 724 of the more than 1500 protesters killed by the regime so far.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) has called on the United Nations to urgently send an international fact-finding mission to Iranian prisons to meet with the detainees.
